(un)Common Life
Humans evolved in tight-knit villages or nomadic groups, where everyone knew each other, kids grew up playing outside, and all of the adults worked together for the greater good. With more people living in big cities and moving periodically for work, such community spirit is often lost. Co-housing communities provide the benefits of village life with the privacy of individual homes. The Commons in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is a prime example of a thriving 20+ year-old co-housing community where residents celebrate, play, work and support one another throughout life.
